What’s a Joey? A baby kangaroo? Or a 4 or 5 year old hockey player?
Newtown Hockey Club offers a ‘Joeys’ program for 4 and 5 year old boys and girls who like playing around with a hockey stick and ball but are a bit young to concentrate on an organised match and strict rules.
The program is a great way to teach children the basic skills of the game, with a focus on fun and small games, and has proven to be a great pre-cursor to future participation in a Minkey (mini-Hockey) team.
The program is conducted at Lloyd Reserve from 10 to 10.30 am each Saturday, commencing April 20, concluding at the end of August.

100 years of hockey in Geelong
2013 marks the 100th year since hockey began in Geelong. The celebrations kick off on Saturday March 23 at Stead Park, with the annual competition for the Tout Cup, played between Hockey Geelong and Werribee Hockey Club. The Tout Cup is named in honour of Lyn Tout (formerly Chapman) who is a Life Member of both organisations. The day features a full day of matches, beginning at 9.30 am.
It should be a great day to watch some great hockey.
