Join the Fun at the 2013 Season Launch

We are all looking forward to another great season in 2013, with lots of fun and enjoyment for all in playing hockey and being a part of such a great club.  All members are invited to join the fun at the launch of the 2013 Hockey Season.

SUNDAY APRIL 14
10 AM TO 1 PM, AT LLOYD RESERVE

Bring your family and friends too – and anyone you know who might like to have a go at hockey.  Mums and dads encouraged to join in the games.

A “Come and Try” hockey session will run from 9 to 10 am – a great opportunity for new players to come and play some games – and see if they think hockey is as much fun as we all do.  No charge, equipment provided.

Then at 10 am the fun begins with lots of free activities.  The day includes great food, great prizes, Jumping Castle and Face Painting, and lots of fun and games – hockey games and races.    Everyone has a chance to win a prize.  Event runs from 10 am to 1 pm, with prizes drawn at intervals during the event.

All welcome.  Enquiries:  Claire Barnes, 0417 015130, email abarnes@pipeline.com.au

Joeys Wanted

What’s a Joey? A baby kangaroo? Or a 4 or 5 year old hockey player?
Newtown Hockey Club offers a ‘Joeys’ program for 4 and 5 year old boys and girls who like playing around with a hockey stick and ball but are a bit young to concentrate on an organised match and strict rules.
The program is a great way to teach children the basic skills of the game, with a focus on fun and small games, and has proven to be a great pre-cursor to future participation in a Minkey (mini-Hockey) team.
The program is conducted at Lloyd Reserve from 10 to 10.30 am each Saturday, commencing April 20, concluding at the end of August.

100 years of hockey in Geelong

2013 marks the 100th year since hockey began in Geelong. The celebrations kick off on Saturday March 23 at Stead Park, with the annual competition for the Tout Cup, played between Hockey Geelong and Werribee Hockey Club. The Tout Cup is named in honour of Lyn Tout (formerly Chapman) who is a Life Member of both organisations. The day features a full day of matches, beginning at 9.30 am.
It should be a great day to watch some great hockey.
