Saturday Social Hockey
Newtown City Hockey Club aims to help everyone participate in and enjoy the game of hockey.
Barriers such as age, lack of fitness or cost may prevent some from enjoying this great game, so we are offering the perfect opportunity to play without worrying about these things.
The club’s Saturday Social hockey programme provides a fun and inclusive environment to play hockey at a minimal cost regardless of previous experience. Players include men, women, boys and girls, experienced players, ex-players and beginners—all are welcome.
If you haven’t played before, it’s a great chance to learn some skills in a non-competitive atmosphere with a focus on enjoyment and participation.
The enjoyable atmosphere then continues with post-match socialising, aided by afternoon tea and friendly banter.
Games are played with two halves of 25 minutes each but you can take a break any time you need a rest. The field size depends on the number of players who are present, with a half field game being common. This means less physical wear and tear and less running.
Games are played on a quality grass surface at King Lloyd Reserve, Windsor Rd, Newtown at 12.30 pm on Saturday afternoon. The programme follows the usual winter season: beginning in April and running until the end of September. Come whenever you can, every week or just occasionally.
Fees are low to cover the cost of insurance and basic club membership. Uniform is not required; just wear something comfortable to run in, including some shoes with reasonable grip. Shinguards and mouthguards are recommended. Bring your own stick if you have one or we can loan you one.
See you on Saturday!
