Newtown Spirit vs Newtown Rockets 8-1
Newtown Spirit played Newtown Rockets on Saturday morning. After evening up numbers, the game got off to a good start. Hugo scored early in the game and then made some great positions and passes from behind the play to setup others. Hayden, Tess and Leila also scored goals. Saskia showed determination in marking and tackling. Bonnie continued to improve and laid several good tackles. Leon generously volunteered to play for the other team.
Newtown Rockets vs Newtown Spirit 1-8
There were 5 players this week for the Rockets: Elspeth, Harry, Lily, Nora, and Will. We had some help from Leila, Saskia and Leon which was great!
There was a lot of great passing by Elspeth and Will and runs by Nora. Harry and Lily worked well passing the ball when close to goal and Harry scored us a goal. Leon did a fantastic job in defence for Rockets, always in the right position to confront the Spirit players heading to goal, and provided some excellent passes out to our wings.
Claire reminded the team to make sure they get in front of the ball and not be too far away from teammates. Also needed to do some quick passing to be able to get the ball past the other team.
Great game Rockets!
Newtown Dynamos vs Newtown Rebels 3-3
Rebels kindly lent Caspar to play for the Dynamos in the first 1/2. Caspar played very well in defense.
The game started off with a great determined goal by Kiarah. Kiarah’s efforts to push forward no matter how many defenders has been very inspiring to watch this season.
The attacking play by the entire Dynamos team in the first half was impressive. There was only one goal, however many penalty corners were awarded. Flynn, Eliza and Edward had numerous shots at goal but the defense managed to prevail in each case. Kiarah almost got goal number two.
The game dynamics changed in the second half. Caspar was back with Rebels and Charlie/Harry left for other commitments. Interestingly this allowed the match to really open up and both ends of the ground were active.
Edward was put under a lot of pressure by the continual Rebels attacks and played admirably setting up counter attacks for Dynamos. Flynn seized the initiative early and assertively shot a goal from just inside the circle.
However Rebels were not deterred, enabling Caspar through team play to even the scores at 2 goals each.
Another strong defensive hit out from Edward at full back, to Eliza and then Flynn ended up with another goal making the score 3:2. Eliza and Flynn were working together really well, putting themselves in ideal positions to receive passes. The game ended with Caspar hitting the final goal of the game evening the scores at 3:3.
Newtown Rebels vs Newtown Dynamos 3-3
Another fabulous team effort from Rebels this week, they played Dynamos, and the match was drawn at 3 all. We only had Charlie and Harry for the first half as they had other commitments this week, but they got and made their presence felt in the first half with some great defence. Charlie was involved in some great tackles, and Harry did a great job saving goals.
In the second half Abby, Ester, and Beatrix stepped up their defence with lots of great tackles. Freddie also got involved in lots of tackles and did some great passes this week. Florence showed her team spirit this week, with lots of passing and getting involved in lots of goal assists. Caspar was very kind and played for Dynamos in the first half. He was fantastic for Rebels in the second half, scoring all three of the goals. Well done Rebels.

Newtown Spirit vs Newtown Strikers 2-2
Top of the table clash between the Newtown sides. The previous three games the scores have got closer each time with Strikers coming out on top. The game was played at a fast pace and Strikers got an early goal. Possession and territory was quite even. Lucas and Ved did a clever one two pass and Ved’s tomahawk was a great finish.
Second half strikers went ahead again with a scrambling goal. Excellent heart shown by Spirit to keep fighting and they dominated the last quarter of the game with Alex pushing in a goal from the back post. Some good work by Oliver and Vicky in defence and great contributions all around the park by the Spirit team.

Newtown Strikers vs Geelong Jaguars 1-5
U14 Strikers were up against Jaguars this weekend, and everyone appreciated the warmer weather compared to the previous round!
Strikers started strong, and very nearly kept Jaguars scoreless in the first half. Isobel worked hard to keep the ball heading in the right direction and up our end, and a nice sequence of play from Audrey, Jess and Maidie almost resulted in a goal – so close!
With just 2 minutes to go Jaguars scored the only goal for the half, which showed just how much the Strikers have improved each time we’ve played this team. Great work Strikers!
In the second half the Jaguars came out strong, scoring 3 early goals. Parker and Cormac teamed up for an attempt on goal that went unlucky, as did further attempts from Jess and Chelsea.
Lilly was in goalie this week and had some great saves, and late in the half Parker managed to break through the defences and put our first goal on the board. The final score 1-5.

Newtown Falcons vs Geelong Jaguars 1-0
Division 1 Men
Newtown Falcons vs Geelong Blue 0-2
Newtown Falcons played Geelong on Sunday afternoon. It was an enjoyable and competitive match. It was 0-0 at half time and the match could have gone either way.
Unfortunately for us there was a brief period in the third quarter where Geelong lifted and our marking fell away, leading us to concede two goals. We lifted in the fourth quarter but were unable to score (and lost 2-0).
