What better way to finish the 2024 hockey season than with close games between 2 Newtown teams!
Congratulations to U12 Strikers (Premiers) and U12 Spirit (Runners Up) on a fantastic game and an amazing 2024 season. The highlight of the game reportedly was the fantastic goal scored by Ved late in the second half.
Under 12
Newtown Strikers vs Newtown Spirit 3-2
In an exhilarating grand final that showcased both dominance and resilience, Strikers emerged as the victors in a tightly contested match winning 3 goals to 2 over Spirit.
Our first half pressure, set the tone for the game with Strikers dominating field position and making Spirit have to defend for the majority of the half. The pressure applied from the team was high and created a lot of turnovers which the team were able to push forward and create multiple goal scoring chances. The way the team linked up and passed to players in space was the best it’s been all season and It was great to see both our wingers, Cooper and Georgia getting reward for effort, with both players scoring goals in the first half.
Strikers started the second half well, extending their lead to 3-0 thanks to a skilful goal from Eddy, but the game suddenly changed momentum, with Spirit starting to control the ball and field position and applying great pressure on our defence. Suddenly the game was being played on Spirit’s terms and when they scored their first goal from a short corner, the intensity lifted again and the game was far from over. Our defence held up, with Mitch, Alex and Albie stopping numerous attacking plays from Spirit. Jack, Joey, Eva and Fraser all squeezing back to provide support, with all managing to make important plays in clearing the ball from dangerous positions.
Upon the final whistle, Spirit scored again to make final score 3-2, with Strikers holding on to claim the premiership.
A big thanks to our coach Dan, who all season has taught our players how to play their positions and the value of teamwork and sportsmanship!

Newtown Rebels vs Newtown Spirit 3-2
The game between the U10 Lloyd Reserve teams Rebels (Premiers) and Spirit (Runners Up) showed the great skills and hockey strategy which these young players have developed this year. Well done to all!
Division 2 Women Best & Fairest
Congratulations to Tash, who was awarded Best and Fairest player for the D2 Women’s competition.
