2023 Winter Hockey Season

The 2023 winter hockey season will begin in April, and Newtown Hockey Club is looking forward to a great year. We hope to see all of our 2022 members back on the pitch. New members are welcome at any time of the year, regardless of previous experience or skill level.

The 2022 season saw a 24% increase in club membership, so we are hoping that the trend will continue in 2023. We are aiming to reach a membership of 320, with teams and programs available for players from age 3 to 65+.

2023 team entries

We are aiming to have at least 17 teams entered in the Geelong Hockey Association competitions for the 2023 hockey season.

Teams will be entered in all junior divisions of the Geelong Hockey Association competitions, from Under 8 to Under 17. With a 2022 Premiership in U10 and U17, and Runners Up in U10, U12 and U14, the junior teams are anticipating some great competition in 2023.

The 2022 Division 2 Men’s Grand Final produced one of the most enthralling matches for many years, with the Newtown Falcons team coming from behind to win the Premiership on a shootout. The high standard of the game will give the team and the players confidence that a 2023 entry into Division 1 is possible.  More players are needed to make this a reality and ensure that we have enough players for teams in both Division 1 and Division 2. New players are most welcome, regardless of experience or skill level.

The senior women’s teams will again participate in both Division 1 and Division 2 competitions. Both teams will be looking for further improvement after good results during the 2022 season.

The Under 6 Joeys program, which commenced in 2007, is the only hockey program in Geelong specifically for children aged 4 to 6 years. The program provides a fun introduction to hockey for these young players, with many of the participants continuing on to older age competitions over the years.
