The Family Fun Day on March 22 got the 2015 season off to a great start for members and families.
The weather was perfect and there was plenty to do, whether you wanted to relax or to show off your skills.
Thanks to John McKenzie and our Premier Partner, Boonchoo Tour and Travel, for sponsoring the day. It’s lovely to see ex-members returning to the Club, with John’s children having joined us in 2014.
The Jumping Castle was an early favourite with kids of all sizes.

The face painter was good at her job – with some great artwork on display.
The penalty strokes and ‘Beat the Keeper’ contests were always popular. Thanks to our keepers, Josh, Brodie and Jessie, for padding up in the heat – and having the heat put on them as well.
Will and Sean were there to show our younger players a few tricks.
And there were ‘young’ players there – maybe potential players in another year – or 4!
Great dribbling skills won the race for Tom.
The musical entertainment, provided by Lisa Hanley and Kate Lineker, added to the enjoyment of the day.
Thanks to Town and Country Meats and Nardi Produce who provided prizes for the raffle.
And then there was the food with the BBQ and the lunch boxes, and the Cake Stall! Yum. Thanks to Tom for minding the Cake Stall – hope he didn’t eat too much of the product!
But the highlight of the day was the KLR Cup match – the Legends vs the Young Guns. We predicted a tight match, which would keep the crowd breathless with anticipation. I’m not sure about the breathless bit, but it was a very tight match. The Young Guns, marshalled by Will, outnumbered the Legends by a huge margin.
The Young Guns scored first and held the lead for most of the game, with some great skills on display. But the Legends showed that old hockey players never die, they just keep going and going – and evened the score with 1 minute to go in the game.
The playing umpire, Sean, declared that the match would be decided with a ‘next goal wins’ rule, and the Legends pressed home their advantage to score, and claim the KLR Cup for the second year.
There was a great mix of players on both teams, all of whom had great fun. Not quite sure how Josh came to be classed as a Legend, although he is undoubtedly a legendary keeper.
Lachie was happy to accept the KLR Cup on behalf of the Legends team – a fitting recognition of the effort of the players, with the Cup greatly admired by the opposition.
