Under 8 (Minkey)
A Lightning Carnival with 5 games for the Minkey teams saw some very tired players at the end of the morning. It was fantastic to see the teamwork which has developed and the improvement in skills for all players. Some excellent defence, with quick free passes, and very effective disposal.

Newtown Maroon – Bye
Newtown White vs Geelong College 0-3
The last match of the season was another great effort by Newtown White – there was lots of great play out wide and long passes to each other. Several attempts at goal were missed by just a fraction. In the end, Geelong College proved too strong and we went down 0-3 – but overall everyone had a great day and the team has worked so hard over the season and learnt some great skills. Thanks Kellie and thanks team!

Newtown Maroon vs Golden Plains 0-3
Newtown White vs Saints 1-1
A hard fought game with the outcome deciding if the Whites would finish the season on top of the ladder.
Newtown scored first through Nik Hinett with an equaliser coming shortly from Saints. The rest of the game was an at times desperate seesaw of attacking and defensive efforts from both teams. When the final whistle blew the score remained one all, securing our place on top of the ladder based on percentage and providing a glimpse of the tough competition ahead of us during the finals.

Newtown Gold v Newtown Maroon 1-4
A tough game to finish home-and-away season. It was nice to have a full team and the play was generally of a high standard. Some good forward attacks, led by Tess, Eliza, Dom and Kelly, provided us with several opportunities. We were unlucky not to have a goal in the first half when a terrific play-on goal came just after the short-corner whistle was blown. Unfortunately we struggled to convert short corner opportunities, but managed one field goal late in the game. Our defence was again very solid, limiting scoring opportunities for Maroon, but some very high quality goals put them ahead early and we were unable to peg our way back. Jess did a terrific job in only her third senior game as goalie, saving several Maroon attempts, particularly toward the end of the game.
Newtown White vs Torquay 0-2
An excellent game by Newtown White with some good defence by Andi and Tracey in the first half limiting Torquay’s opportunities in the circle. Torquay scored from a short corner but Newtown continued to fight hard. Great midfield play by Katelyn, Kellie and Emmason pushed the ball forward into attack in the second half. Great leading by Cait, Phoebe, Steffi and Erin saw us achieve a number of circle entries with some great positioning in front of goal, and with Molly and Rachael showing great ball control we were unlucky not to score. The team has worked hard all season and shown great improvement and adaptability in a number of playing positions. Well done all – no finals for us but wait until next year!!
