“All things Old are New Again” aka “On the grass”
The Newtown City Hockey Club aims to offer as many people as possible the opportunity to play this great sport of hockey. We know that over the years many players have stopped playing for any number of reasons, which may include travel times, lack of regular match times, physical wear and tear from playing matches on synthetic surface, cost.
So we are offering any interested male and female players (both past players and new players) the opportunity to join us in a socially based environment to play a fun game of hockey. This “competition” will be based on the old classic grass surface, with games to be played at King Lloyd Reserve, Windsor Rd, Newtown on Saturday afternoon – just like the old days. Rules and structure are flexible at this stage until we can gather some interest, but we suggest that games will be two halves of 30 minutes, with a reduced field size. We are happy to receive comments or suggestions.
The programme will commence at 1.30 pm on Saturday May 4, and will continue on May 11, 18 and 25. If there is sufficient interest, the programme may be extended to extra days and / or an extra match at 3.00 pm.
Fees will be minimal, designed to cover costs – generally membership of the Club so as to provide insurance cover etc.
This opportunity is not intended to replace any participation in the Hockey Geelong competition at Stead Park. You may want to play both – or you may find this a great way to play a great sport at a regular time and place.
Is this of interest? We’d love to see you “On the Grass”. Contact Peter Stuart, ph 0417 280118 or p.c.stuart@bigpond.com.au for more details. You can let us know you are interested – or just turn up on May 4.
