We are very pleased to announce that Deb Barnett has accepted the position of Head Coach for the Newtown City Hockey Club for the 2014 season.
We have been very fortunate to have Deb join the Newtown Hockey Club in 2013, and have greatly appreciated her advice and support. We look forward to Deb’s further involvement and guidance in 2014. Deb’s role will cover all the Club’s teams (junior and senior) and will include mentoring of players and coaches, development of strategy and game plan, training and skill development.
Deb was a member of the Canadian Women’s Team between 1984 and 1994, and played 109 games for Canada, including 2 Olympic Games tournaments.
Deb has an excellent coaching resume. She coached the University of Calgary team from 1992 to 2000, and was Assistant Coach for the Canadian team at the Junior World Cup from 1993 to 1997. One of Deb’s previous jobs was Hockey Program Co-ordinator for the Alberta Province, Canada. In 1996, Deb was awarded 3M Coach of the Year – a very prestigious coaching award in Canada.
