2020 Hockey Registration Day @ King Lloyd Reserve
Mar 1 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Hockey registration for the 2020 winter season is now open.

Newtown City Hockey Club invites current, past and future members to join us for another fantastic year of hockey. As the largest hockey club in Victoria outside the Melbourne Metropolitan area, we offer a wide range of opportunities for people to play hockey.

All registrations should be submitted by March 8. Early registration will allow us to enter appropriate teams for the 2020 season.

New Members Welcome

Anyone who would like to play hockey is welcome – regardless of age, experience or skill level. Anyone who registers will be given a place in a team. New members are welcome at any time. Come and see what the Newtown Hockey Club offers and try us out.

Beginner hockey players are welcome. Boys and girls aged 5 to 12 are welcome to join our Hook In 2 Hockey programme, without commitment. Adult beginners are invited to try our Saturday Social programme, providing a relaxed fun way to try hockey.

Completing Your Registration

You can complete your hockey Registration  online at home, or come along to our Registration Day and we will help you get it all done. Registration Day is the opportunity to try on and purchase uniform and equipment, and pay some or all of your fees.

Bring your stick to have a hit, and meet some prospective team mates. Don’t worry if you haven’t got a hockey stick – we can loan you one.

Never too young to play hockey

We would love to discover a future hockey star, who might one day be part of the Australian Hockeyroos or the Kookaburras teams.

Stick2Hockey

Hockey is a great sport for the whole family, and Hookin2Hockey and Stick2Hockey programs are an excellent way to make new friends and to start a lifelong love of hockey.

The Stick2Hockey program aims to provide a bridge between Hookin2Hockey and participation in one of the Newtown Hockey Club teams which compete in the Hockey Geelong competitions. The program is suitable for children who may have learnt some hockey skills but are still learning the strategies of the game and developing skills.

The 8 week Stick2Hockey program is open to boys or girls aged 5 to 12, providing an opportunity to play hockey games, and continue developing skills and learning game strategies. The program is flexible and relaxed, with the main emphasis on having fun and continuing to develop skills. Modified game formats are used to foster teamwork and develop confidence for the participants. Games are played on a smaller field, with 5 to 7 players per team, so everyone is involved. There is no formal competition, but players will be grouped into teams to play games and learn further skills. Bring a friend and double the fun.

It is not compulsory to participate in a Hookin2Hockey program before joining the Stick2Hockey games.

Uniform is not required, but may be purchased through the club if desired. Equipment (stick and ball) is available for loan to participants if required. Each child should have a mouthguard and a pair of shinguards.

At the end of the program, players may choose to progress to one of the club competition teams, or return for a further Stick2Hockey program.

Fees include:

Stick2Hockey program fee – $30 – includes a free pair of Newtown Hockey Club socks

Registration with Hockey Victoria/ Hockey Australia. Payment of this fee provides personal accident insurance cover until December 31, 2020.

  • $30 for players 8 or under
  • $52.50 for players aged 9 to 10
  • $73.00 for players aged 11 to 18. Payment of this fee provides personal accident insurance cover until December 31, 2020.

Newtown Hockey Season Launch 2020 @ King Lloyd Reserve
Mar 28 @ 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Season Launch 2020

The 2020 hockey season will begin on April 18, and we are expecting another fantastic year of enjoyment with hockey and with friends.

Join us on Saturday March 28 for a day of fun, food, games and activities to kick off this hockey season.

If you are a Newtown Hockey Club member, come along, and bring your family and your friends. If you are not already a member, we would love you to come along and see what the Newtown Hockey Club can offer you.

What’s There To Do?

Get to know other members of the Club and try out your skills. Have a go at some of the hockey activities, or try the races or other games. We have the Jumping Castle lined up, and there’s the Giant Connect 4 and the Frisbee Challenge. Throw in the the Face Painter too and we are set for a great day.

Pick up a bargain at the pre-loved book stall, or get set for the winter hockey season with a hoodie or a nice warm jacket to go over your uniform.

Relax and enjoy the musical entertainment from Noah Vernon.

Put your thinking cap on for the Trivia Quiz – you might win a prize. Or buy a raffle ticket (or two) with some great prizes on offer – including a meat pack from Town and Country Meats, or a fruit and vege hamper.

Rest and refresh after the games with a coffee or a cold drink, or tempt your taste buds at the home made cake stall. Of course, you only eat cake after you have sampled the BBQ!

Lunch and refreshments are available for purchase but the activities are free so just come and join in. No need to bring anything – except maybe some nice weather and a chair or a rug. We have activities for the whole family, so come and try them out.

The KLR Cup Is On The Line

After lunch, get a ringside seat for the feature match – the Young Guns vs the Legends. Will the Young Guns be able to wrest the KLR Cup away from the Legends? The Newtown Hockey Club has been operating for 42 years, and the Legends team features many of the stalwarts of the Club. What they have lost in speed over the years, they make up for in game awareness, but the Young Guns have the speed and skill to make them work hard.
