Come and Try

Hookin2Hockey is a great way for children to find out about hockey and see what fun it is. Boys and girls aged 5 to 12 are invited to come and join a Hookin2Hockey program. There is no commitment to continue – unless you really enjoy it.

It doesn’t matter if you haven’t played hockey before because the Hookin2Hockey program is aimed at beginners. We are happy to teach you some skills and show you what it’s all about.

Hockey is:

  • Having fun
  • Open to everyone
  • Co-operating with your team mates
  • Knowing the skills
  • Exciting and energetic
  • Young and old players

Hook In 2 Hockey

A Hookin2Hockey program allows children to see if this is a sport they might like to continue playing, without any expensive initial outlay.  Come along to the first session to see what it’s all about, with no charge to participate.

You can register with Hockey Australia for the Hookin2Hockey program. For a fee of $85, you will receive your own hockey pack (stick, ball, shinguards, backpack) plus insurance cover for the period of the Hookin2Hockey program. If you have any questions, please contact us.

If you would like to continue playing hockey, we can offer you a range of ways to participate – in both summer and winter seasons.

Australia has a fantastic record in international hockey, with the national teams, the Kookaburras and the Hockeyroos  currently ranked 2nd and 4th in the world.

Hook In 2 Hockey Junior hockey

Many of the Australian players began playing hockey in the younger age groups which Hookin2Hockey works with. It’s never too late to begin playing hockey, and almost never too early. We can provide the opportunity for children to begin learning about hockey as young as 3.

Season Launch 2019

The 2019 hockey season will begin on April 27, and we are expecting another fantastic year of enjoyment with hockey and with friends.

Join us on Saturday April 6 for a day of fun, food, games and activities to kick off this hockey season.

If you are a Newtown Hockey Club member, come along, and bring your family and your friends. If you are not already a member, we would love you to come along and see what the Newtown Hockey Club can offer you.

What’s There To Do?

Get to know other members of the Club and try out your skills. Have a go at some of the hockey activities, or try the races or other games. We have the Jumping Castle lined up, and there’s the Giant Connect 4 and the Frisbee Challenge. Throw in the the Face Painter too and we are set for a great day.

Pick up a bargain at the pre-loved book stall, or get set for the winter hockey season with a hoodie or a nice warm jacket to go over your uniform.

Relax and enjoy the musical entertainment from Noah Vernon.

Put your thinking cap on for the Trivia Quiz – you might win a prize. Or buy a raffle ticket (or two) with some great prizes on offer – a meat pack from Town and Country Meats, or a fruit and vege hamper.

Rest and refresh after the games with a delicious fruit smoothie, or tempt your taste buds at the home made cake stall. Of course, you only eat cake after you have sampled the BBQ!

Lunch and refreshments are available for purchase but the activities are free so just come and join in. No need to bring anything – except maybe some nice weather and a chair or a rug. We have activities for the whole family, so come and try them out.

The KLR Cup Is On The Line

After lunch, get a ringside seat for the feature match – the Young Guns vs the Legends. Will the Young Guns be able to wrest the KLR Cup away from the Legends? The Newtown Hockey Club has been operating for 41 years, and the Legends team features many of the stalwarts of the Club. What they have lost in speed over the years, they make up for in game awareness, but the Young Guns have the speed and skill to make them work hard.
